CORE CONCEPT EXPLAINER: THE SHIFT TO MFRS 18

What is MFRS 18? MFRS 18, Presentation and Disclosure in Financial Statements, replaces MFRS 101 to enhance the comparability and transparency of financial performance reporting.

  • Key Changes covered in this course:

    • New P&L Structure: Introduction of three new categories—Operating, Investing, and Financing.

    • Mandatory Subtotals: Requirement to present “Operating Profit” and “Profit Before Financing and Income Tax”.

    • Management-Defined Performance Measures (MPMs): New disclosures for “non-GAAP” measures to ensure they are audited and transparent.

    • Aggregation & Disaggregation: Improved principles for grouping information to prevent clutter in the notes.

SUSTAINABILITY & CLIMATE CHANGE DISCLOSURE

  • Implementing IFRS S1 & S2 in Malaysia: Aligned with the National Sustainability Reporting Framework (NSRF), this module prepares entities for mandatory climate-related disclosures.

  • Course Highlights:

    • IFRS S1: General requirements for disclosing all material sustainability-related risks and opportunities.

Sonia Ram, a Fellow Member (FCMA) of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) since 2004 and a member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) since 2005, has had a long and distinguished career as a Management Accountant in well-known Malaysian and International companies.

She started her career in Finance as an auditor. Among her achievements are winning awards as a student , CIMA– 4th Place worldwide prize winner– Financial Reporting (IAS) Paper, & for AIA – Bronze Medal Winner – Statistics & Data Processing Paper.

From 1996-2002 she worked as a Lecturer in a Local College lecturing in Accounting, Statistics for Diploma & Undergraduate students of various disciplines.

Subsequently, from 2002 till 2019, she held managerial positions in various multinational corporations within the electronics manufacturing sector, handling a wide range of portfolios from Corporate Reporting, Costing, Budgeting & Forecasting, Performance improvement . She also spearheaded her team’s successful implementation of the new MRP system and W-desk setup to ensure Sox compliance, even conducting in-house training for the team.

Sonia possesses hands-on experience with the MS Office Suite and is a Certified MS Office Specialist for MS Excel 2016. She demonstrates a strong commitment to continuous learning by actively staying updated with the latest industry requirements.

In addition to her technical expertise, Sonia is also an HRD Corp Accredited Trainer.
